Athena A. Economou, Allied ASID
Athena A. Economou is a graduate of Connecticut College with a BA in European History. She was a licensed Interior Designer with the State of CT for over thirty years, during which time Athena took numerous Post Graduate courses in Interior Design. Athena opened her first retail design studio in 1978 on Prospect Avenue in Hartford, CT. The business relocated in 1987 to 784 Farmington Avenue in West Hartford. In 1999, Athena closed the design studio to move with her husband to Mendham, NJ.
Ms. Economou garnered rooms in Hartford’s Junior League Show Houses, The Devonwood Millennium House, and other charity related design projects for the March of Dimes, The Wadsworth Athenaeum, to name a few. Her design work has been published in Traditional Home, The Hartford Courant, The West Hartford News, and Connecticut Magazine. In addition to her work on residential homes in Connecticut, she has also done work in New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, Florida, South Carolina, Virginia, Texas, Block Island, Fishers Island, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket. Athena has also had commercial projects consisting of many law firms, accounting firms, and real estate offices, as well as model homes and apartments. Her most notable commercial job was the World Headquarters of Dexter Corporation, a Fortune 500 Company.
Athena continued to work in the tri-state area from her New Jersey home and then for eight years from her New York City apartment. She has been an Allied Member of ASID from 2003 to the present. In 2003, Athena received an Honorable Mention in the Schonbeck “Beautiful Rooms” contest for a Dining Room she designed in Watchung, NJ. The contest was advertised in national magazines like Traditional Home and generated over 1700 entries from all over the world. Only five rooms were recognized.
Athena Economou’s greatest skill is understanding the tastes of her customers, identifying their goals, and designing spaces that suit their taste and budget.
